My First Blog Post

“Ok campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties because it is cold out there….it is cold out there everyday!!!”

Let’s Twist This!

Food Recipes

….and More

Ok…..someone who lives in New Orleans is starting their first blog post with a quote saying it is cold outside?!?!?!….cold outside everyday?!?!?….what in the what?!?!?!

It is simple really and has nothing to do with the weather. In the Bill Murray classic Groundhog Day, that was the beginning of the conversation of the radio announcers when Phil Connors woke up on Groundhog Day…….the first time. It was also the signifier that made Murray’s character start to realize he keeps waking up in the same day–Groundhog Day! This is one of my favorite movies and is a movie whose lesson I model my life around…..so much so that my alarm goes off to the song ‘I Got You Babe’ by Sonny and Cher every day!

Yes….I wake up like this!

To quickly summarize the movie, Phil Connors (Murray) is living the same day over and over again and is left feeling obviously trapped. Connors even has a conversation where he states ‘What would you do if you were stuck in one place, and every day was exactly the same, and nothing that you did mattered?’ He continues along his ho hum existence until his boss, Rita, makes the statement that endless time is ‘Maybe it’s not a curse. Just depends on how you look at it.’ It is after that that Phil starts using his time to learn new things, explore new hobbies, and put those new passions out into the world for others to enjoy with him. It is then, when the joy he gives himself that in turn gives others, the ‘curse’ is finally broken…..sorry for the spoilers but it has been almost 30 years since its release, so you had time!!!

So to remind myself to take time to create and explore and embrace the free moments I have in this redundant life, I wake up to ‘I Got You Babe’ and try to do something new…to me…when I can. And Let’s Twist This is my outlet to share my joys with y’all!

While I am aiming to have ‘Let’s Twist This’ be a food blog filled with original recipes that are mostly healthy, I will stray into fun food facts or sharing of meals as I explore unique cuisines.

Also, I am a ‘why buy if you can make?’ person….I thrift store find, ‘dumpster’ dive, or generally cheaply try to make things. I will be sharing non-food projects that I ‘twist’ as well. Mainly because sometimes I get so excited with results that I can’t help myself. For example, my thrift store desk that I had purchased for $40 and turned into a faux Spanish tiled conversation piece.

Additionally, I am a fiber crafty and am particularly fond of weaving, so I may drop in with a “What is on my loom!?!” post on occasion.

And finally, since New Orleans is such an exciting and picturesque city, I will also be sharing photos of “Home”.

Basically, when you have a creative and messy mind, it is hard to stay focused on just one creative outlet. I hope you enjoy the journey down this rabbit hole that is ‘Let’s Twist This!’
